The Future of Library Systems

The library technology landscape is being transformed. Library technology vendors are being forced to innovate as a result of recent developments in computing (cloud, software as a service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)), disparate library systems and the ubiquity of devices used to access library services. Consequently, a new model, an all-encompassing library system is emerging. It has been given different names like, ‘shared service library management system’; ‘library services platforms’; ‘webscale management system’; ‘uniform management system’; ‘service platform’.
