Don calls for introduction of Archival Education in schools


Dr Abiola Abioye,  a lecturer in the Department of Library, Archive and Information Studies, University of Ibadan, on Wednesday in Abuja, called for the introduction of archival education as a general course in schools.

Abioye made the call while presenting a paper on “Archives Administration: A Journey in Perpetuity” at the opening of an exhibition of archival materials by the FCT Archives and History Bureau.

He noted that this would assist to cultivate the culture of record keeping and promotion of archival materials.
He identified the lack of record keeping culture as a bane of archives appreciation, saying that had been a major setback to the development of archives in Nigeria.
Abioye said that for proper funding and development of archives, all hands must be on deck for archives administration. He also called for support and goodwill for archival institutions and established in the country.
He urged Nigerians to wake up and feature prominently on archival world map, adding that all Nigerians had the responsibility to move archives administration forward.
