The Nigerian Library Association, Information Technology Section is pleased to present the 5th Annual Library and Information Technology Today (LITT) – the most practical sectional workshop on all aspects of library and information technology.

Theme:Information Literacy in the 21st Century”

Workshop Overview
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has brought about an unprecedented level of information explosion in every sphere of life. The Library and Information Service professionals have the implicit responsibility to manage this explosion in information, and in addition, strive to match users with the right kind of information. Information Literacy and lifelong learning have been described as the beacons of the information society. Information Literacy empowers people to seek, evaluate, use and create information effectively to achieve their personal, social, professional, educational, and corporate goals. Information Literacy is perceived as very critical in managing information explosion and knowledge. Thus, it is a 21st century skill which every librarian must possess for efficient service delivery. This workshop will provide a practical and interactive environment for acquiring the much needed skills and knowledge of Information literacy in the 21st century.

  • Development of information literacy : current principles, policies, programmes, and practices
  • Information literacy : types, models and standards
  • Evaluation of Information Sources
  • Information retrieval and search engines
  • Use of free online resources/ tools for dynamic information retrieval
  • Social media and information literacy
  • Library literacy programmes on the net - examples of the good, the bad  and the ugly programmes
  • Practicing searching and retrieval using a range of electronic databases (e.g) EBSCOhost, Ebrary, JSTOR, AGORA, HINARI, DOAJ.
