Awka 2011:Opening Ceremony

Opening ceremony started with an interesting cultural dance troupe presented by Enugu State and Akwa Chapters dance troupe. Dignitaries were recognized by NLA PRO, Chimezie Ndukaku. The highlight of the occasion featured the presentation of kola-nut which is the sign of welcome in Igboland.

The chairman of the occasion Pro Egboka, presented an address, highlighting on the importance of embarking on readership campaign by the NLA nationwide to inculcate the reading habit in young people. The theme of the conference “Information for All” should stress the need for popularization and globalization of information worldwide. Therefore, Librarians should avail themselves the opportunity to use the Information technology available to strategize on ways to ensure that we become part of global information network.

The president presented his address highlighting that Anambra state has produced famous and popular people that have served in various capacity in the word. The theme of the conference “information for all…” is to provide information for all strata of the society. He also congratulated the Federal Government for the Freedom of information Bill and the “Bring the back the Book programme” is has launched.

This conference is an exemption one from previous ones as 36 papers will be presented during the proramme. As such number has not been presented in conference since the inception of NLA conference.

The keynote address was presented by the Rector Prof Godwin Onu represented by Deputy Dr Don Monuo. He stresses that the theme of the conference is timely as information is necessary for human endeavor .
