NLA President Denied Visa to Canada to Attend IFLA

Every year the Nigerian Library Professionals have always participated in the annual International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) conference. Some of them are IFLA committee members and others represent their institutions.

This year, the host country - Canada denied the NLA President visa to the conference. According to the Star Newspaper, "Among them is Victoria Okojie, president of the Nigerian Library Association, who told the Star the deputy high commission in Lagos rejected her by mail with 'a little sheet of paper' explaining they thought she might stay in Canada."

Please read the rest of the story titled Librarians livid over rejected visas from The Star Newspaper site http://www.thestar.com/article/474417

For information, I was also not able to obtain a Visa to attend the Quebec conference. I chaired my Standing Committee meetings by Skype! I believe colleagues from developing countries need to discuss this issue, as others were also not able to get to Quebec to attend IFLA.
